Dr. Barry L. Jacobson is a pioneer in the field of pediatric dentistry, creating heightened standards of care and revolutionizing practices and treatment, particularly for children suffering from complex medical conditions, dental phobias, and developmental or emotional delays.
In 1999, Dr. Jacobson founded and accredited the Pediatric Dental Residency Training Program at Mount Sinai Hospital and Medical Center in New York City. He continues in the role of the director, teaching and inspiring the next generation of pediatric dentists.
A highly respected figure in his field, Dr. Jacobson has lectured nationally and internationally, been featured in Forbes Magazine, appeared on various televised news programs, published multiple peer-reviewed articles on pediatric dentistry, and authored a children’s book entitled, The Princess Who Lost Her Smile. He was instrumental in creating a pathway for pediatric dentists to accredit their offices with local governments, allowing them to provide in-office general anesthesia with greater oversight and safety, thus improving access to care for children in need of those specialized services. He has also served on the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry’s Safety Committee, dedicated to improving patient safety nationally.
Dr. Jacobson and his wife have supported Tel Aviv University’s Vocational Training Program for young adults with intellectual disabilities through fundraising for various efforts and attending annual inclusion conferences. Graduates of the program have flourished as dental assistants. He was also part of the founding committee for the Building Bridges Conference, which focused on the needs of people with disabilities and their caregivers.
A father of four, Dr. Jacobson is an active member of his local community. In his personal life, he enjoys travel, the outdoors, scuba diving with his family, working on the family farm, and making wine.
