Our mission is to deliver exceptional services while maintaining a personalized approach. We aim to become lifelong partners for families, assisting children on their journey to optimal dental health.

Our commitment starts with using safe, BPA-free materials, including our range of ceramic and porcelain dental crowns. These crowns are designed to ensure your child’s teeth stay healthy, strong, and naturally beautiful.

What Are Dental Crowns?

Dental crowns are protective caps placed over damaged or decayed teeth. They restore the tooth’s shape, size, strength, and appearance.

For children, dental crowns are often used when a tooth has extensive decay that cannot be repaired with a filling or when a tooth is fractured. Crowns are also used to protect teeth that have undergone root canal treatment.

When Do Tiny Teeth Need a Little Extra Protection?

Sometimes, our little ones’ teeth need a little extra help to stay strong and healthy. Whether it’s due to a cavity, a chip, or a crack, a dental crown can act like a tiny helmet, protecting the damaged tooth and restoring its function. We believe that every child deserves a bright, confident smile, and that’s where dental crowns come in.

Types of Crowns: Choosing the Perfect Fit

At 949 Pediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics, we offer two primary types of crowns for children: ceramic and porcelain. Both materials provide excellent durability and aesthetic appeal.

Ceramic Crowns

These crowns are made from a type of ceramic material that mimics the natural look and feel of teeth. They are durable and resistant to wear, making them an excellent choice for restoring both front and back teeth.

Porcelain Crowns

Porcelain crowns are renowned for their natural appearance and high biocompatibility. They are custom-made to match the color of your child’s teeth, providing a seamless and natural look. Porcelain crowns are particularly suitable for front teeth due to their excellent aesthetic qualities.

What Happens During a Crown Procedure?

At 949 Pediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics, we want you to feel informed and confident about your child’s dental care. Here’s a simple breakdown of the dental crown process:

  1. Initial Consultation: We’ll start with a friendly chat to learn about your child’s dental history and examine their teeth. We may take X-rays to get a closer look. We’ll discuss the best treatment options for your child, and you’ll have plenty of time to ask questions.
  2. Tooth Preparation (First Visit): We’ll make sure your child is comfortable with numbing medicine. Then, we’ll gently remove any decay or damage from the tooth and shape it to fit the crown perfectly.
  3. Taking Impressions: We’ll create a mold of your child’s tooth, which will be used to make a custom-fit crown that looks and feels just like their natural tooth. This crown will be made of safe, BPA-free materials.
  4. Temporary Crown: While we wait for the permanent crown to be made, we’ll place a temporary crown to protect the tooth.
  5. Fitting the Permanent Crown (Second Visit): When the new crown is ready, we’ll remove the temporary one and carefully place the permanent crown on the tooth. We’ll check to make sure it fits perfectly, looks natural, and feels comfortable.
  6. Final Touches: We’ll make any tiny adjustments needed to ensure the crown fits snugly and doesn’t interfere with your child’s bite. Then, we’ll polish the crown so it’s smooth and shiny.

We understand that dental procedures can be a little nerve-wracking for both children and parents. That’s why we go above and beyond to make your child’s experience as comfortable and positive as possible.

Our team is experienced in working with children and knows how to put them at ease. We also offer additional comfort options, such as nitrous oxide (laughing gas), to help your child relax during the procedure.

We’re here to answer any questions you may have and guide you through every step of the process. Your child’s smile is our priority!

FAQs: Your Burning Questions About Kids’ Dental Crowns, Answered

We know you might have a million questions about dental crowns for your little one. We’re here to help! Here are some common questions (and super honest answers) we hear from parents just like you:

My kid hates going to the dentist. Will getting a crown be scary?

We totally get it! Many kids feel nervous about dental visits. That’s why we’ve created a super kid-friendly environment with colorful murals, comfy chairs, and a whole lot of fun. Plus, our team is specially trained to work with children and make them feel at ease. We even offer painless injections and can use laughing gas if your child is extra anxious. We’ll do everything we can to make the experience a breeze!

Are crowns really necessary? Can’t we just pull the tooth?

While pulling a baby tooth might seem like a quick fix, it’s not always the best option. Baby teeth are important placeholders for adult teeth and help with proper speech and chewing development. A crown can protect the tooth, allowing it to stay in place until the adult tooth is ready to come in.

My child is very active. Will the crown stay in place?

Absolutely! Dental crowns are designed to be durable and withstand the wear and tear of everyday activities. However, it’s important to avoid sticky or hard foods that could damage the crown.

How long does the procedure take?

The crown procedure usually takes two visits. The first visit is for preparation and placing a temporary crown, while the second visit is for fitting the permanent crown. Each visit typically lasts about an hour, but we can give you a more precise estimate after examining your child’s tooth.

Will my child’s crown look different from their other teeth?

Not at all! We use tooth-colored materials like ceramic or porcelain to create crowns that blend seamlessly with your child’s natural teeth. No one will even be able to tell they have a crown!

Does insurance cover dental crowns for kids?

Most dental insurance plans cover a portion of the cost of dental crowns for children. We’re happy to help you check your benefits and file your claim to maximize your coverage.

What other services do you offer for children?

At 949 Pediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics, we offer a comprehensive range of dental services for children, including:

  • Preventive care: Regular checkups, cleanings, fluoride treatments, and sealants to keep teeth healthy.
  • Restorative treatments: Fillings, crowns, and pulp therapy to repair damaged teeth.
